
Once the clocks have gone forward, summer has begun. Cue months of long evenings in the garden, Pimms, BBQs, Wimbledon, and of course Love Island. But you need to make sure that you’re looking after yourself to really enjoy the most of the sporadic sunshine that we get every year. This video shares with you some great apps to keep you in peak physical condition to throw yourself fully into summer. There are three things that can really ruin summer. The great British Weather, being pink after an hour in the sun and gasping for a drink to refresh me on a boiling hot day! We’ve got some apps to combat all of these. First of all, the weather. Nothing says a summery English day like getting caught in an unexpected downpour. Never again with Accuweather. Accuweather gives super accurate updates for your exact location. Open the app and check the warnings for the next two hours using Minutecast. You can set up multiple favourite locations too, like home and work for example, or even your holiday to Ibiza or Zante! You can even see breakdowns for the upcoming hours and days. They’ll also keep you updated on things like dust and dander levels, as well as in-depth and detailed weather map and forecast including things like humidity, visibility and pressure. One of the most useful features is RealFeel. This tells you how hot it will actually feel, taking into consideration all the factors rather than just temperature. You can even see the difference in between being in the sun and the shade, which is where you might be after looking at our next app. UV Lens will warn you of any particularly high levels of rays that could be damaging to your skin. The cool thing is that you can even set yourself up in the app to get a reminder to top your protection back up when it’s run out. You see that we can input loads of info about yourself like Skin tone, freckles, hair colour, as well as things like your normal susceptibility to burning and tanning. The sun cream button asks for the details and shows how long I’m protected for. Press set and you're good to go. Finally, staying hydrated is super important, especially with all the outdoor fun we have at beaches, festivals or parks over the summer. Use your phone to download a water drinking app to keep you topped up, like My Water. Add some information about yourself during the setup and just update throughout the day. Add a drink with the Add a drink button, the free version lets you choose from tea, coffee or water and then simply choose the amount. Back on the home screen, there's a progress chart for today, check recent data and even see rewards and achievements. Drinking lots of water is not only good to help protect against dehydration, but also has a number of health benefits like clearer skin, weight loss and better mental health.
